GATHERING GLOBAL WAGE DATA (webliography)

There are many reasons to want current information about the compensation for specific employment positions in different countries. One reason from an employer's perspective is the need to benchmark, so that the company is neither over nor underpaying. From an employee's perspective there may be more moving parts. Is the pay relative to the cost of living in the other country comparable to staying where one is? Is there long-term career value associated with working elsewhere for a period of time? What is the value of all else associated with the overseas assignment; training, cost of relocating, cost of travel, whether one’s family goes with you or not, etc.? Has the company offered you a pay where you would live like a king in the relocated country, however, it is a fraction of what you would have made had you stayed in your home country? Can you retire on that income? How long is the assignment?
As a foundation, most of these questions’ answers are available through colleagues, the employer, and associations with ex-pats, one's own research, etc.
As with any webliography the information is time sensitive; websites come and go. Of course, the information will be current as of the edition. It is also true that any webliography is most likely not exhaustive.
Your research along the lines of cost of living information should necessarily take into consideration the unforeseen. For example, will you need more money to compensate for that which you may take for granted where you currently live?
Some web sites make specific industries their focus. Salary makes International data available for Canada and the IT industry. PMI.org charges for specifically Project Management data.
Beyond this other examples include FindLaw, offering some compensation information. Forbes and BusinessWeek publish on their websites regularly executive salary information. And, anything that trades publicly must report such financials to the SEC; and the database EDGAR would have that information.
So with all that said, here is a webliography of global wages.
